Hip-hop, since its incorporation in the late ’70’s, has been a cultural phenomenon. Since hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa introduced the communities of New York to break dancing, MCing, DJing, and graffiti writing, the movement has been epic. Rap artists like Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G, and Run DMC, among others, have become some of the most iconic artists in music history.
February 9, 2010 is yet another huge milestone for the hip-hop culture. On that date, The National Museum of Hip-Hop (NmoH) will host an exclusive celebrity fundraiser event called Hip-Hop Immortal. This event, which will be a Gala Red Carpet Affair, will take place at the M2 Ultra Lounge at 530 West
28th Street in New York City. KRS One and Chuck D are scheduled to host this celebrity filled event that will help raise funds and awareness for the museum. Some of the invited guests include: Akon, Ice T, Redman, Kid Capri, Ja Rule, The Roots, Bones Thugs-N-Harmony, and Kid -n- Play among others.
This event is historic. The main purpose of Hip-Hip Immortal is to bring knowledge of the development of the “first ever” hip-hop museum. The museum is set to be equipped with 100,000 plus of square foot space in New York City near Yankee Stadium. It will also be a community based facility as well, as it will serve for economic development, political education, and job training programs for local homeless, unemployed, and drug addict individuals. This is a remarkable feat for a cultural movement that many critics said wouldn’t stand the test of time.
If you live within the range of New York’s Hot 97 or you follow Funkmaster Flex then you know he cannot allow anything to go on in hip hop without stating his opinion. He chimed in briefly on the Jay-Z vs. Beanie Sigel situation when it first popped off but of course he had to go back in on his show and via twitter.
Flex says that Jay-Z was wrong for not letting Sigel leave Roc-A-Fella but then he went in further. ‘Artists like to gravitate like bees towards honey to the hot label because it cuts down their legwork,” says Flex “I think Beans is wrong for making a record saying anything about Jay-Z.”
Flex also gave his take on Jaz-O taking shots at Jay saying “move with it Jaz-O, everybody wasn’t meant to be in this Hov position.”
The silver lining to this whole situation is at least Flex is reading blogs and paying attention to the internet. That is a very positive step in the right direction.
Katt Williams was released on bond after being jailed for criminal trespassing and burglary. His bond was set at $41,150. Williams was arrested this morning, after cops say a man named Daniel Broach claimed the comedian broke into his home on Sunday night and stole $3,555 worth of jewelry and collectable coins. Broach told cops Katt used a crowbar to break into his home.
This situation is crazy even for a wild guy like Katt. His attorney released a statement bringing a little logic to the alleged burglary. “The case is still under investigation. We believe this is a — contract dispute. Katt is actually leasing the property he has been accused of burglarizing as well as trespassing on. We are sure this will be worked out.”
According to various internet reports the normally uber-private Jay-Z let it slip to Gotham Magazine editor in chief Cristina Cuomo that having kids is high on he and wife Beyonce’s list of priorities. This comes on the heels of the couple’s public display of affection at the 2009 MTV Europe Awards where during an acceptance speech Beyonce thanked Jay for “putting a ring on it.”
This is being reported as a slip of the lips but does anybody really believe that any move this power couple makes publically is anything but calculated?
Singer/writer Dream may have dropped weight between his first and second album but now he’s ready to get Hollywood skinny. Dream announced via twitter that he would be losing some pounds for an upcoming film role as well as for his upcoming album Love King.
“I am going down to 170 lbs for an upcoming film and the release of my third album,” Dream tweeted. Partner Tricky told rap-up.com that the album is pretty much done.
A few weeks back allhiphop.com reported that Hell Rell was suing Jim Jones, E1, Koch, Tycoon and Babygrande for unpaid royalties. Rell had released two albums since 2007 and has yet to receive the proper payment according to the suit. Rell broke his silence regarding the suit and his status with former boss Jim Jones.
“This shit be killing me,” he said to XXL. “I go on the Internet and everybody saying I’m suing Jim Jones. That was a false report on the media’s behalf. Yes, I do have a lawsuit pending with Koch… but, no, I’m not suing Jim. At the end of the day we might all have our differences, we might not speak to each other on an everyday basis for certain reasons, but, no, I ain’t suing nobody.”
Rell says he has cleared the air with Jones but he cannot speak on the case with E1.
Rell’s latest CD, Live From Hell is in stores now.
Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie was already having one of the worst years of his career, he was fighting with his Trill Entertainment label and he plead out to a charge that was sending him to prison in the prime of his career. Bad went to worst yesterday as Boosie appeared in court to begin what he thought was to be a one year sentence. However the presiding judge had other plans for Mr. Bad Azz.
District Court Judge Chip Moore revoked Boosie’s probation, sending him straight to jail. He was on house arrest with an ankle monitor. The monitor indicated that on more than one occasion, Boosie had violated the terms of his release. Judge Moore doubled his original sentence and ordered him to spend four years in prison.
Boosie was expected to be sentenced to 10 years with most of it suspended, meaning he would only serve about 10 months. Due to his probation violation his lawyer expects him to serve 24 months.

Infamous, Andrew Correra, Cool & Dre and Develop are among the many producers who contributed to the project.
Longtime DTP member Shawnna ruffled a few feathers with some statements alluding to her leaving the house Luda built. During a recent performance Shawnna finally cleared up the rumors of her joining T-Pain’s Nappy Boy label.
“I know y’all been hearing a lot of T-Pain rumors…Shawnna ain’t f*cking with Luda no more’ and all that sh*t. I just want y’all to know that I’m still f*cking with Luda, that’s my n*gga 100 percent man. We have Battle of the Sexes coming soon and I’m signing a new deal with T-Pain right there…I’m f*cking with two real good n*ggas in the industry so I can’t help but win.”
With so few relevant female emcees in the game it is good to see Shawnna’s still in high demand.
